CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A Cortland man who allegedly fired shots at police officers will soon stand trial.

The Cortland Voice reports Steven Burda’s trial begins a week on Monday, Aug. 4. Prosecutors say Burda fired a shotgun at Cortland Police officers and deputies in January 2024 as they were serving eviction papers to his home on Homer Avenue. Authorities say no officers were injured, but Burda was wounded after police tried used non-lethal force in an attempt to disarm Burda.

In Feb. 2024, Cortland County DA Patrick Perfetti said a deputy who shot Burda in the leg was cleared of wrongdoing.

Burda, who remains in the Cortland County Jail, faces a 17-count indictment when his trial starts.
