CORTLAND, NY (607NewsNow) — A big traffic change is coming to Cortland.

Mayor Scott Steve says for the first time in roughly 70 years, Main Street opens to two-way traffic on Friday, July 11. “This is a big moment for our community and is all about making downtown safer, easier to get around, and more inviting for everyone who lives, works, shops, and visits here,” Mayor Steve wrote on Facebook.

As a result, there’s no parking on Main Street today from Lincoln Avenue to Port Watson Street so crews can finish pavement striping for on-street parking areas. Back-in parking also begins Friday on Main Street, which the mayor says is safer.
