NEWFIELD, NY (607NewsNow) – A piece of Tompkins County history is getting a new lease on life.
According to WENY-TV, local developer Seth Adams is restoring the ‘1883 Barn’ in Newfield. Adams, owner of Warner’s Real Property Services, purchased the building last summer in Tompkins County’s tax foreclosure auction. Adams says the barn, located along Route 13 and untouched for 25 years, will undergo extensive rehab work before he decides what it will become, but it will likely be a ‘mixed-use’ project.

Adams will first try to get the 141-year-old structure approved for the National Register of Historic Places, pitching the period of significance as 1965 to 1977 when the building served as an art space. He’s hopeful the project will be completed mid to late 2026.
