CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — A woman was rescued last night from an apartment building on fire in Cortland.

Crews responded around 11 o’clock to the building on Main Street. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire on the second floor of the building, which contains several apartments. The woman was treated for smoke inhalation after her rescue. Everyone else living there is also accounted for.

Chief Wayne Friedman says the fire began with a lithium ion battery that was charging. Extensive smoke and water damage was seen throughout the building’s second floor.
