ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Much of New York is continuing to put the pieces back together today after Tuesday’s windstorm. 

According to the National Weather Service, the top wind speed in the state was 79 miles an hour. It happened in the north country near Watertown. For context, forecasters say Category 1 hurricanes begin at 74 miles an hour.

The top two speeds in Tompkins County came in at 56 in Slaterville Springs and 51 at the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport.
