ITHACA, NY (WHCU) – Voting is open for the Tompkins County Board of Elections general election sticker contest.

Over 100 Tompkins County students in grades 6 through 12 submitted artwork this year, the second year of the “I Voted” contest. The list has been narrowed down to ten finalists. The winner’s work will be featured on the stickers used in the general election this November.

“We have such an amazing community of young artists in Tompkins County,” said Republican Elections Commissioner Alanna Congdon. “Our elections staff has been inspired by the designs we received at the interest in voting and civic engagement at a young age.”

Kindergarten through 5th grade students participated in a “Future Voter” contest. The winning design will be featured on stickers given to children who are visiting the polls with their parents.

Last year we were impressed by the community’s interest in this new tradition,
said Democratic Elections Commissioner Steve DeWitt. “It’s exciting to get young people involved and to get the word out about the general election as early as we can.”

Board of Elections Staff will showcase this year’s sticker contest and provide information about the general election outside their offices at 128 East Buffalo Street in Ithaca from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They encourage the public to visit during Ithaca Festival.

Online voting is open through July 5.
