VARNA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A local fire department will honor a fallen public service member.

The Varna Volunteer Fire Company (VVFC) will unveil a Little Free Library next week in memory of late Dryden town board member Jim Skaley. Skaley, an avid science-fiction reader, was instrumental in infrastructure projects in Varna, including improvements to public transportation hubs. Skaley also played a large role in the formation of the Affordable Housing Committee in his tireless efforts to deal with community housing challenges. His colleagues call Skaley a “remarkable individual who made a lasting impact on the Town of Dryden.”

The Little Free Library will be dedicated in a public ceremony at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4 at the VVFC station located on Turkey Hill Road. Attendees are encouraged to bring a book to donate to the library in Skaley’s honor.
