TRUMANSBURG, N.Y. (WHCU) – One local student will rub elbows with state lawmakers in the capitol this month.
Greta Garrison, of Trumansburg, has been chosen as one of 60 New York high school students to attend the 24th annual Students Inside Albany program from May 19-22. The program is designed to increase student knowledge of representative government and their awareness of civic responsibilities.
The Charles O. Dickerson High School senior Garrison will spend three days learning how state government works, including the role of lobbyists, citizens’ rights to information, and the role of media in politics. The conference is highlighted by attending a session on the Chamber floors while shadowing State Senators and Assemblymembers. The conference is sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
