ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A trespassing investigation is underway after multiple reports of unlawful entry in Ithaca.

Officers from the Ithaca Police Department were called to the 600 block of West Buffalo Street around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday for a report of someone trying to illegally enter a home. Authorities were able to secure a description of a suspect and locate him nearby. He was positively identified by the resident and arrested for trespassing and released on an appearance ticket.

Around 4:50 a.m. Tompkins County Dispatch received consecutive unlawful entry calls spanning from the 300 block of North Plain Street to the 200 block of Stewart Avenue. Officials say the descriptions they received matched the suspect they arrested near West Buffalo Street. He was located a short time later and arrested after victims positively identified him. IPD says he was released on an appearance ticket as required by law.

The man’s identity is not being released at this time as investigations are still pending.

IPD is urging residents to lock windows and doors as no force was made to gain entry into any of the residences involved in the investigation.
