ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Half a million dollars from the Tompkins County community recovery fund remains unclaimed.

The money was designated for Second Wind Cottages of Newfield, who wanted to build additional campgrounds to house the homeless in Newfield. Town officials objected and issued a one-year moratorium on campgrounds.

Tompkins County Legislator Dan Klein has been overseeing the process.

The application was rejected on Monday.

The money that Second Wind is seeking comes from Tompkins County’s chunk of COVID-19 relief money that was distributed by the federal government.
