OWEGO, N.Y. (WHCU) — In Tioga County, a state of emergency will be extended.

Earlier this month, Legislative Chair Martha Sauerbrey issued an emergency order after a pandemic-era rule at the US/Mexico border ended. The order prevents housing for asylum seekers, citing a lack of resources and available housing.

It’s been extended twice since the original order was issued May 11 and was set to end today. Sauerbrey tells WHCU it’s been stretched for another five days.
