SALINA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Two Onondaga County police officers are dead during a shootout in Salina.

Authorities say Syracuse Police tried pulling a suspected stolen vehicle over Sunday evening, but the driver sped away. The license plate was written down and investigators looked up its registered address. When officers arrived, police say an armed man began firing shots.

A Syracuse Police officer and Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputy were shot and killed along with the suspect. No names have been released by law enforcement.

Reactions to the shoot deaths are being shared this morning by local law enforcement. The Ithaca Police Benevolent Association is sending ‘many prayers’ while the Dryden Police Department calls the shooting deaths ‘a sad and tragic event that hits close to home.’
