ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response (DoER) is hosting a course on storm spotting.

The Basic SKYWARN Spotter Course is being offered by the National Weather Service (NWS). Officials will train individuals how to spot severe weather, like thunderstorms, tornados, hail, and lightning, and what to report to the NWS.

The class is free and open to the public of any age. No previous training is required. It happens April 12, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the DoER 911 Center at 92 Brown Road in Ithaca. An advanced course is being offered in Cortland in May. Registration is required.
