ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — Some New York lawmakers are calling for more support for roads and bridges.

State Senator Tom O’Mara says highway officials work with little funding.

“We need to improve upon what Governor Hochul has put in her budget so far,” he says. “Far more spending in a lot of areas with little attention to our local roads.”

Assemblyman Phil Palmesano also supports more spending. He wants to raise funding for the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program by $200 million. Palmesano calls the request “warranted and justified.”

Officials say asphalt and steel prices have increased significantly since 2020.
