OWEGO, N.Y. (WHCU) — Tioga County remains under a state of emergency. 

Legislative Chair Martha Sauerbrey tells us a lack of housing is the main reason for keeping the emergency declaration about asylum seekers in place. Sauerbrey describes the county’s housing crisis as critical. 

Sauerbrey says the village of Owego did not want that type of housing. 

Sauerbrey recently extended Tioga County’s state of emergency through Saturday.
