CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – Data shows SUNY schools play key economic roles in their communities, particularly in Cortland County.
A report from the Fiscal Policy Institute shows that SUNY produces 179,000 jobs in New York, accounting for an average of 5% of wages in counties that have SUNY campuses.
That number is significantly higher in Cortland County, where SUNY Cortland is responsible for 24% of all jobs, and 29% of all wages. Both figures are the highest share in any county in the state.
