CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – One man is recovering after a plane crash in Cortland.

State Police were called to the Cortland County Airport just after 3:00 Thursday afternoon.

The small plane, a single-engine Cessna 305A “Bird Dog” bound for Kansas from Vermont, flipped on the runway while making a stop to refuel in Cortland.

The pilot, 58-year-old Bradley Fitchett, of Ellsworth, Kansas, was transported to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He was the sole occupant of the plane. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.

Cortlandville Fire and the Cortland Fire Hazmat Team assisted on scene.
