OWEGO, N.Y. (WHCU) — When school begins tomorrow in the Owego Apalachin Central School District, there will be a new mascot.
Superintendent Dr. Corey Green says the River Hawks will immediately replace the old mascot, under a ruling by the New York State Education Department that banned the use of Native American names and images in schools.
Green says the River Hawk name was chosen after a series of meetings and surveys.
