ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — A Tompkins County Sheriff’s deputy, who remains suspended, was convicted Wednesday of perjury.
36-year-old Zachary Starner faces a year in jail for lying under oath in the 2019 rape trial of a colleague, who was acquitted.
Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne tells WHCU Starner is still getting paid despite his continued suspension.
Starner was arrested in February 2021. The Lansing man will be sentenced in May.
