CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) — Homeowners in Cortland are being encouraged to let their lawns grow in May.

The ‘No Mow May’ is a conservation initiative promoting a healthy spring habitat for pollinators.

From Cortland.org, the city’s website:

WHY participate?

  • We rely on bees & their allies to pollinate 100 crops nationwide.
  • Steep declines in insect populations affect our food production.
  • We protect pollinator food supplies & habitat, so we can sustain our own.

To participate, you must register with the Cortland City Code Enforcement office by April 21.

The number is 607-753-1741, Ext. 103.
