ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) — New York’s Move Over law is expanding.
Starting tomorrow, the law will include disabled vehicles on roads. The law currently states that drivers should safely move into another lane for emergency and police vehicles with flashing lights.
According to Triple A, 48 New Yorkers were killed between 2015 and 2021 while waiting outside a disabled vehicle.
All 50 states have a version of a move over law. New York’s version took effect in 2010.
