ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Some Tompkins County residents will test out new voting machines next week.
The rollout of the new equipment will happen during village elections in Cayuga Heights, Groton, Dryden, and Trumansburg on Tuesday. The county Board of Elections says the new machines are smaller, faster, have more ballot storage space, and reduce the chance of paper jams.
The new machines also have a new feature in ADA compliance that reduces the voting time to 3-5 minutes. County officials say that process took up to 30 minutes on the previous machines.
The New York State Board of Elections certified Clear Ballot machines represent a 15-year technological advance and will be available countywide in time for the early voting period for the presidential primary.
