MORAVIA, NY (WHCU) – Governor Hochul has shared highlights of the state’s economic development grant program for smaller communities.
Moravia recently won the $2.25 million NY Forward grant. It’s part of an ongoing investment effort to revitalize economies and create opportunities in rural parts of the state. Six projects have been chosen in Moravia. The state has shared the following details:
- $300,000 – to establish a Small Project Fund to support mixed-use and commercial property improvements. The new fund will expand NY Forward’s impact to other smaller projects beyond those selected for direct funding.
 - $500,000 – to convert the vacant former Elmira Savings Bank Building at 142 Main Street into the new bar and restaurant “Main Street Tavern.”
 - $640,000 – to improve Main Street streetscape. The project will build on a recent NYSDOT intersection improvement at Cayuga and Main.
 - $392,000 – to redesign Ethel Fuller Park to improve safety and offerings. Improvements include upgraded playing courts and a larger pavilion.
 - $328,000 – to renovate a former medical office at 66 Central Street to “Rowan’s Bar & Grill,” which will include a restaurant, bar, and event space with outdoor seating.
 - $90,000 – to create a flexible new outdoor space for community use at Powers Library, including new seating, improved lighting, and landscaping.
