ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) – New vehicle inspection stickers are coming to New York.
The new-look stickers can be printed-on-demand anywhere you get your vehicle inspected and will also include vehicle specific information like plate number and mileage for added security.
“This new process will enable inspection stations to print stickers right on their premises, rather than having to wait for a supply of stickers to arrive from DMV,” said DMV Commissioner Mark Schroeder. “This change is part of our efforts to transform the DMV’s customer service. The stickers will also enhance security by having information about the vehicle printed directly on them.”
Law enforcement will be able to confirm the validity of the new certificates based on information displayed on the sticker. DMV officials are working with partners in law enforcement and local government to ensure they know of the transition and can recognize legal and valid stickers.
The inspection will still change color each year. A statewide transition is expected to be complete by the end of 2023, and some vehicles may have them already.
