ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Become a Master Composter in Ithaca.
You can help reduce waste in Tompkins County by taking the 10-class, in-depth training through Cornell Cooperative Extension. Adam Michaelides, who has led the training since 2002, explained to WHCU what the training hopes to achieve beyond teaching an individual how to make good quality soil.
Classes meet on Thursday nights from February 9th through May 4th, with several exceptions.
Michaelides explained what kinds of things volunteers do upon completing the course.
One local composting program that some in the area are likely familiar with was started by and is maintained by volunteers who have completed the course.
Michaelides says the types of people who get involved have a wide range of reasons and the impacts of the program are often far-reaching.
Contact Adam Michaelides at acm1@cornell.edu or visit the website for more information, including how to apply. Applications are due by the end of the day on Monday, January 30th.
