ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — After over 20 years on the bench, Tompkins County Judge John Rowley is retiring.

Reports say Rowley’s retirement begins March 1. The 64-year-old has served as Tompkins County’s judge for 23 years.

Lansing Town Judge Maura Kennedy-Smith announced Thursday her candidacy for the role. With a primary in June and an election in November, officials say a transitional plan is in play for the rest of 2024.
