ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Officials in Tompkins County are considering extending the local sales tax.
The county currently taxes shoppers an additional one percent, on top of the three percent from the state. The local tax expires in November, but it might be extended another two years. Legislators say doing so would help keep services available, and prevent a large increase in property taxes.
Officials meet tonight at 5:30 PM to discuss.
