LANSING, N.Y. (WHCU) – The construction of a heavily debated gas station convenience store gets approval in the Town of Lansing.

The Planning Board voted to approve the final Dandy Mart site plan on Monday, March 27, 2023. Many residents expressed concern that the original plan was too big and bright for the location at the corner of Route 34 and Route 34B. The Planning Board relayed these concerns to Dandy Mart officials, and concessions were made to accommodate them. Most of the concerns centered around brightness of lights and noise.

Dandy officials also received notes from the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT). The Planning Board and Dandy officials went over each note from the DOT at Monday’s meeting.

Planning Board Chairman Al Fiorelle believes the board and Dandy did their best to amend the site-plan based on public feedback. He addressed the Dandy officials and residents in attendance.

“Based on what you [Dandy Mart] first came to us with and what we have right now is a huge difference,” said Fiorelle. “The board did the best we could. We took into consideration all of the comments we received from the public. We tried to eliminate those concerns, or at least soften those concerns. The applicants worked with us very well. We made a lot of requests; you [Dandy Mart] followed through with those requests.”
