ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — A Broome County village will receive the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative Award for the Southern Tier.

Johnson City was named as the region’s winner on Wednesday, meaning Ithaca gets snubbed for the sixth year in a row. Gary Ferguson at the Downtown Ithaca Alliance tells Ithaca.com that officials with Empire State Development, which oversees the DRI process, chose Johnson City over Ithaca because of support from Cornell and ongoing development projects.

The DRI grants began in 2016 under former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
