ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Ithaca’s Stewart Park could receive historic designation.

It’s one of 13 properties in New York nominated to be added to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The recommendations come from the New York State Board for Historic Preservation. Stewart Park was chosen for its historical landscape and architecture that reflect its different periods of development, from the late 1800s through the 1950s.

“New York’s built environment reminds us of our state’s rich and diverse history,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “These nominations reflect parts of our past and demonstrate New Yorkers capacity for growth, innovation, demonstration, and change. Adding these sites to our historic registers emphasizes the roles they have played – and will continue to play – in New York’s story.”

Inclusion on the State and National Registers of Historic Places makes the properties eligible for public preservation programs and services, including matching state grants and federal historic rehabilitation tax credits.
