ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The City of Ithaca is set to host a public hearing on short-term rentals.

The proposed ordinance has several changes after feedback suggested the original rules for short-term rentals were too complex and difficult to monitor and could have potential effects on long-term housing in the city.

Under the new proposed ordinance, permits would only be issued to a primary resident of the property, and non-primary residences would not be allowed to be used as short-term rentals. Permits would not be issued to LLCs, corporations, or trusts. Short-term rentals would be allowed in any single and two-family dwelling units, and any owner-occupied dwelling units within a multiple dwelling or mixed-use building.

The public hearing is scheduled for Ithaca’s Common Council meeting scheduled for April 10.
