ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Ithaca leaders are preparing a policy on firearm safety.

The regulations would require gun owners to disable or lock their weapons while at home. Alderperson Robert Cantelmo says police or unarmed responders would enforce the law, but they would not go door-to-door.

Alderperson Jeffrey Barken adds gun sellers could potentially educate buyers about the policy.
