ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Ithaca Police Department (IPD) is investigating a shooting that occurred on the city’s west side.
Officers responded to the 600 block of West State Street around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, April 24, 2023, for a report that someone had been shot. Authorities say it happened in a multiple-dwelling residential building on the 300 block of North Meadow Street. IPD found evidence at the scene.
IPD says multiple suspects allegedly entered the residence, and one shot the victim with a handgun before they all fled in a dark-colored SUV. The SUV did not have its lights on initially and nearly caused an accident when it quickly pulled into traffic. The victim is expected to survive. IPD does not believe the shooting is related to another crime that happened in the city around the same time.
The investigation is ongoing. Authorities believe the victim was specifically targeted. Anyone with information is asked to contact IPD.
