ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Ithaca Police officers successfully negotiated the surrender of an armed man this morning.
Traffic was diverted away from the 300 block of West Seneca Street at approximately 9:00 a.m. after IPD received a report that a man had entered an apartment and was making threats to kill himself. The man was armed with a box cutter and a butcher knife and did not know the resident.
Officers began negotiating with the man and secured a safe evacuation of the resident and their pets. Officers convinced the man, who is not being identified at this time, to hand over his weapons and surrender to custody for mental health treatment.
