ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance will no longer be listed on the agenda for Ithaca’s Common Council.

The Ithaca Voice reports the decision became official Wednesday and will receive a vote at a future meeting. Common Council members offered suggestions to replace the pledge with a moment of silence, meditation, and what Alderperson Pierre Saint-Perez called an ‘Earth pledge.’

Alderperson Ducson Nguyen suggested dropping any preamble and starting the meeting’s business, which is what will happen going forward.
