ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Community advocacy on behalf of Ithaca Carshare is working, but more is needed.

The non-profit, member-based organization called for a push last week to urge Governor Hochul to sign the bill that would allow the operation to solve insurance problems and stay open. The bill was passed by the full state legislature in May.  Ithaca Carshare says the calls, letters, and signs that were brought to Hochul’s visit to Ithaca have helped lead to increased negotiations with the governor’s counsel. The negotiations have continued this week in hopes of an agreement on chapter amendments to the bill.

Ithaca Carshare Director Liz Field says one person in the governor’s counsel said this has been the ‘most contentious bill’ this legislative session out of more than 900 bills. Ithaca Carshare asks the public to continue to push Hochul to sign it so they can begin operating again after pausing operations earlier this year.
