CORTLAND, N.Y. (WHCU) – One firefighter has been treated for an injury after an apartment fire in Cortland.

The City of Cortland Fire Department responded to a multi-family home in the city’s Sixth Ward around 10:45 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2023, for a heavy blaze that required help from multiple agencies. No civilian injuries were reported, and one firefighter was taken to a local hospital for a shoulder injury.

The City of Cortland Fire Investigation Team determined the cause of the fire was a charcoal grill on the back porch of a second-floor apartment.

Agencies that provided assistance on scene were the  Cortland County Department of Emergency Communications, City of Cortland Police Department, TLC EMS, Homer Fire Department, NYSEG, National Grid, and the Cortlandville Fire Department.
