BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WHCU) – Tragedy has been averted after a glider crash in Big Flats.
Chemung County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the Harris Hill Road driving range on Saturday afternoon for the accident. A 67-year-old Pennsylvania man was giving a flying lesson to a 14-year-old from Horseheads when they were unable to get low enough to land on a nearby runway. The certified instructor was forced to make an emergency landing at the driving range. Neither the pilot nor the student was injured. The plane suffered damage to the wing and nose.
