OWEGO, N.Y. (WHCU) — Tioga County is retrieving an artifact from the 1800s.
Historian Emma Sedore says it’s a bell from the county’s first courthouse.
“It stayed in that courthouse until they built the new one in 1872,” she says.
Sedore says the artifact is currently at the Lounsberry Methodist Church, which recently closed.
She adds the bell belongs in Owego.
