‘Hateful’ social media post condemned by Cornell president, Ithaca mayor

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Cornell Police are investigating a social media post allegedly made by a student that said, “Zionists must die.”

In a statement, Cornell President Martha Pollack condemned the post, calling it “heinous.” Ithaca Mayor Robert Cantelmo has also issued a statement saying, “anti-Semitism and Islamophobia have no space in our society or city.”

Let me be clear: anti-Semitism and Islamophobia have no space in our society, community, or city. I condemn violent and hateful language against our Jewish and Muslim neighbors in the strongest terms.

Last fall, a Cornell student wrote posts on social media targeting Jewish students on campus. He was later arrested and charged in federal court.
