WASHINGTON, D.C. (WHCU) — Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is backing the decision to shoot down the suspected Chinese spy balloon.

A U.S. fighter jet brought down the balloon on Saturday. Gillibrand calls the action “appropriate.” She says the U.S. can’t allow countries to spy.

Chinese officials say they were trying to observe the weather.
