ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – It’s the dog days of summer, and experts at Cornell are urging caution with pets amid higher temperatures.

Brian Collins is an associate veterinarian at the Cornell Riney Canine Center and also works in the community practice at the Cornell Animal Hospital. He tells WHCU with high temperatures expected today and tomorrow, it’s important to keep an eye out for signs of overheating in your pet.

Collins adds cats are at risk too but are better at regulating their own body temperatures. He says dogs can have adverse health reactions after 5-10 minutes inside a car in temperatures as low as the 70s.
