ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – Tompkins County leaders are taking steps to address EMS worker shortages.

In addition to recruiting hires and a possible rapid response pilot program, they’re turning to educating the next generation of EMTs closer to home. County EMS Program Manager Joe Milliman says a partnership with a local hospital and regional trauma center is in the works.

Milliman adds Cayuga Medical Center has space to teach the class on site. The Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response (TCDoER) is also working with TST BOCES to introduce EMS classes to area high school students. TCDoER continues to work with TLC-EMS on teaching EMS classes in Tompkins County.
