ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – A special election upcoming for a vacancy on the Tompkins County Legislature.
Early voting to fill the seat in District 3, left by the passing of Legislator Henry Granison in November, begins this Saturday and runs through January 22nd at the Tompkins County Board of Elections building at 128 East Buffalo Street in Ithaca. Voting hours will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, including weekends and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. On January 17th and 19th evening hours will be extend to 8:00 p.m. A drop box for Absentee Ballots will be placed outside the front door of the building during business hours.
Susan Currie, the former Director of the Tompkins County Public Library, is the only official candidate, however write-in candidates are still a possibility.
Election Day is January 24th. Voting will take place from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The three polling places where you can cast your vote are the South Hill School on Hudson Street, the Belle Sherman Annex on Cornell Street, and Alice Cook House, at the corner of Stewart and University Avenues on Cornell University’s campus. To be eligible to vote in this election, you must live in Ithaca’s First Ward, District 3, and Ithaca’s Third Ward, Districts 2 and 3.
