ITHACA, NY (WHCU) — Students in the Ithaca City School District are getting out early this week.
Kids in pre-K through grade five will be dismissed at noon. Students in grades six through eight will be let out at 1:30. Meals will still be provided. Officials say high temperatures are causing the temporary change. They want to ensure students are safe and cool.
The heatwave is also causing an early dismissal for students in Homer. Superintendent Thomas Turck says elementary and intermediate students are going home today and Thursday beginning at 12:05 while junior high students are headed home at 11. There’s no school tomorrow for Juneteenth, and it’s a full day of school Friday.
Regent exams at Homer High School are proceeding as scheduled in air-conditioned spaces.
