DRYDEN, N.Y. (WHCU) – One non-profit in Tompkins County is celebrating a pair of milestones.
The Dryden Youth Opportunity Fund is celebrating two decades of supporting area youth with enrichment programs and activities. The organization has also surpassed $200,000 in total grants awarded in Dryden, which are given twice a year.
“We made an important decision to create an entity that could support youth activities not only in the school district, but also activities for Dryden youth sponsored by any non-profit organization,” said Dryden Youth Opportunity Fund Board President, Paul Streeter.
The school district, Southworth Library, and Tompkins County 4-H have received the most funding since 2003. The awards typically range between $500 and $1,500 each. In total, 306 grants have been awarded.
“It’s been quite rewarding to be a part of a community-based charity that has helped support opportunities that have enriched in some manner the experiences of what must be a few thousand kids over the past 20 years,” said Streeter.
