NEWARK VALLEY, N.Y. (WHCU) – The driver of a vehicle that struck four pedestrians in Tioga County last month will not face criminal charges.
Tioga County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 18-year-old Dominic Fontana, of Endicott, Tuesday, March 28, 2023, for an unsafe lane change traffic violation. The crash occurred on February 15, 2023, in Newark Valley, killing three and seriously injuring another.
The investigation included a search warrant for the vehicle involved and the electronics within, and a subpoena for cell phone records. Investigators also reviewed video footage from commercial vehicles’ on-board cameras, doorbell cameras, and security cameras from businesses and residences. Drug and alcohol sobriety tests were also administered. Authorities say there was nothing found to support criminal charges related to the crash.
The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police (NYSP), the NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit and Unmanned Aerial System Unit, Tioga County Emergency Services, Newark Valley Fire Department, Berkshire Fire District, Main Emergency Squad, Owego Emergency Squad, LifeNet of New York, the Tioga County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
