ALBANY, N.Y. (WHCU) – State officials will likely not be able to intervene in the reported sale of Cargill’s Cayuga Salt Mine in Lansing.

Advocates and local officials have called for the DEC and Governor Hochul to require Cargill to submit to an environmental impact study with built-in economic safeguards in the event the mine collapses. DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos says unless anything changes, their hands are tied.

A report of the potential sale of the mine first surfaced in August of last year.
