ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) — Ithaca’s acting fire chief is now permanent.

Rob Covert was appointed to the position last night by the Common Council. The vote was nine to zero.

Mayor Laura Lewis moved to make the appointment rather than going through a search committee, which was approved.

Covert was named acting chief after last year’s retirement of Tom Parsons.

The permanent status begins today.
