CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. (WHCU) — Cortlandville wants to eliminate one town justice position.
Town Supervisor Tom Williams says a move to a Centralized Arraignment Process in 2020 streamlined operations. Any judge in Cortland County can now handle off-hour arraignments on a rotating basis.
Cortlandville created the second justice position in 2013 to ease the workload. Last month, the town board adopted a resolution to drop the justice position down to one.
It will appear on the ballot in November.
